The rumors were true and yesterday Game Informer gave a tease of their upcoming issue with Elder Scrolls Online as their cover story.
Bethesda didn't reveal any gameplay with this announcement but gave information that Game Informer would have a lot of details in the upcoming issue. They did say however that the game is set to be released sometime in 2013.
We also know that this game will take place 1000 years before the events in Skyrim and that you will be able to travel all of Tamriel. This includes the lands featured in previous Elder Scrolls games like Skyrim, Morrowind, and Cyrodiil.
There will be 3 player factions, although we have no idea yet what they are. There will also be contested pvp land battles which to me means that you will fight for control of these lands in real time.
Bethesda has teamed up with Zenimax Online Studios to design the game. This studio was established about 5 years ago with Mythic's cofounder Matt Firor. It has been said during the announcement that they have been working on this game for a few years now, so I am excited to see where they are exactly in its development stage.
I for one am excited yet cautious about this release because I wonder exactly how they plan on implementing the Elder Scrolls game play into an MMO. If it is a sandbox title where everything is affected by players that could good and bad. However if they go to much into the standard MMO play style it will no longer feel like an Elder Scrolls game. I guess we will all just have to wait and see what game informer has to reveal for us soon.
This game is scheduled to be released in 2013 for PC and Mac.
